I love making small portions of fruitcustard ,with different ingredients and it is very cute to serve in the single serve bottles, kids love this , especially during kids parties, you can stock several such portions in the fridge conveniently and hand out one to each kid.
You can use any seasonal fruit or berries that is available. This recipe can be adapted for Vrat during Navarathri , by adding arrow root powder or sago powder to thicken the milk for a thick gel like sauce..
3 cups crushed biscuits / substitute with puffed amaranth or makhana seeds ./ fox nuts , for Vrat during Navarathri
1 1/2 cups mixed fruit cubes
2 tbsp finely chopped jelly ( optional )/ use sabja seeds soaked in milk , ground to paste for Vrat recipe
1 tbsp almond slivers
1 cup prepared custard sauce.
For The Custard Sauce:
1 cup low fat milk
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp leveled , custard powder/ replaced with arrow root powder for Vrat / navarathri recipe
few drops of vanilla essence
For the custard sauce
Put milk to boil with sugar.
Mix custard powder with 1 tablespoons of cold milk.
Add this mixture to the boiling milk and stir continuously for half a minute, till it becomes thick.
Cool, add vanilla essence and chill.
How to proceed
In a tall glass or in single serving bottles, put half the crushed biscuits/ makhana roasted or toasted till crunchy , crush and add , if making for vrat , top it with half the chopped fruits, and then with half cup of custard.
Garnish it with 1 tablespoons of chopped jelly and sliced almonds and serve chilled.
Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make one more glass.or bottle.
