Methi masala dal is a frequent dish in my menu for everyday cooking for the simply yummy flavors and the ease with which it can be made under 15 minutes. Packed with nutrition and health , it is a great choice for not only diabetics but also growing children. Methiche varan as known in Maharashtra , this delicious dal is also good for weight loss without compromising on flavors and taste .
Some posts were not planned so I never clicked pics, but after there were some requests for recipes , I decided to share them here but with poor pics as these are from the lunch plate and not great but the recipes are great I assure you.
1 cup toor dal
1/2 cup finely chopped methi leaves
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 tsp chopped garlic or garlic paste
2 tsp ginger
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1 tsp chilli powder
Pinch of turmeric powder
salt as needed.
1 tsp lime juice
1 tsp oil

Wash and soak the dal in water, pressure cook till soft.When cooled, mash well and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, add onions, ginger garlic, green chillies and cook till onions are soft. Add the methi leaves, tomatoes either chopped or pureed, turmeric powder, salt. add very little water, mashed dal and let it cook on low flame.
when thickened , ad some coriander leaves if you wish. Add jaggery .
Add lime juice when removed from flame.
Serve hot with phulkas or rice.
