Curry leaf kozhambu | karuvepillai kozhambu

The humble curry leaf is packed with incredible nutrients to combat so many ailments and diseases that it’s no wonder our moms and grandmas included it in as many dishes as  possible mainly as a garnishing and even added some in rasam podi and sambar podi while grinding the podi in bulk . Sadly we just remove them  and chuck them away , So at best you get just a curry flavor infused in the foods .But there are several ways you can have the curry leaf with its immense nutrients fully present in the form of a flavored powder , or as a spicy Thokku ( like a pickle ) and as a spread or chutney that can be used to mix with rice and eaten . Curry leaf powder is also a handy mix to have in house to eat with rice and ghee .

Sharing a tasty recipe given to me by my friend Charu , this curry leaves kozhambu is way too easy and hard to imagine how it could be so delicious , as not many ingredients involved, no complicated process of roasting grinding etc .

Instructions
  1. wash and wipe dry curry leaves .
  2. grind to a smooth paste with ingredients mentioned .
  3. take a pan, preferably earthen pan , add sesame oil , add cumin seeds
  4. when cumin seeds get toasted, add the ground curry leaves paste .
  5. cook on low flame, dilute if needed .
  6. the curry leaves kozhambu is done when thickened and oil floats on top and no raw smell
  7. enjoy as an accompaniment for idlis, curd rice or to mix with rice and ghee.
