Kalkandu pongal , sweet pongal made using sugar candy or kalkandu as it is called in Tamil is made using sugar candy/rock candy and milk with just flavors of cardamom and some hints of saffron , garnished with ghee fried cashewnuts .One of the many sweet dishes prepared during Pongal festival and also during the month of Aadi as one of the several sweet preparations made every Friday during the month . Kalkandu Pongal is just another variety of a sweet pongal which adds a different taste to the regular pongal , using sugar candy . This makes a very easy one pot or pressure cooker recipe .
Kalkandu Pongal/Kalkandu Sadam
Both are a little different as kalkandu saadham is a sweetened rice with not mashed up rice, whereas in kalkandu pongal, we mash up rice and add the powdered or liquid sugar candy , taste wise both are very delicious. kalkandu saadham is less sweeter also .
