Thenga maanga pattani sundal is nothing but dried white peas also called as vatana / pattani  tempered with grated raw mango, coconut green chillies ginger . Popular as beach sundal as it is very famous  and sold a s a bhel like delicacy with grated carrots and chopped onions too .

This simple recipe is made for Navarathri , hence no onions  are added . watch this quick video .

Instructions
  1. Soak the dry white peas in sufficient water for 6-8 hours
  2. pressure cook for 3 whistles with a pinch of salt added . turmeric powder may also be added while pressure cooking . cook till tender but not mushy
  3. drain the peas and keep aside .
  4. in a pan , add oil , splutter mustard seeds, add split udad dal , let it turn golden , add curry leaves .add turmeric powder , asafoetida powder .
  5. add the grated raw mangoes , add the drained peas .
  6. meanwhile coarsely grind coconut with green chillies and little ginger .
  7. add this to the tempered peas .
  8. mix well .Enjoy tangy spicy dried white peas sundal
  9. on other days you can enjoy this by adding chopped onions, grated carrots .
