Krishna Jayanthi, also known as Gokulashtami or Janmashtami, marks the birth of Lord Krishna and is celebrated with great devotion across South India. Homes come alive with the fragrance of ghee-roasted sweets and savoury snacks made as neivedyam (offerings), from soft seedai and crispy murukku to aval (poha) based dishes that are said to be Krishna’s favourite. This year it falls on Sept 4 2026 .
